Dorothy Byrne Hubbard Patterson, 87 of Cambridge, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Monday, April 20, 2009. She was born at Mt. Horab, New Jersey on August 2, 1921, and was a daughter of the late Edward Robert and Josephine Twachman Byrne. She grew up and attended schools in Martinsville, New Jersey. She was first married to Rev. Richard C. Hubbard on September 23, 1940. Rev. Hubbard passed away on October 20, 1994. They had made their home in Cambridge since 1946. She had taught Sunday School at Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge for 30 years. On January 26, 1996 she was married to Wilbert T. Patterson. For the past several years she had been an active member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She was a world traveler and loved remembering her many trips. Mrs. Patterson had been admitted to Dorchester General Hospital on Friday where she passed away early Monday morning.
Survivors include her husband Wilbert T. Patterson of Cambridge, one daughter Kathy H. Abbott and her husband Donald W. Abbott of Cambridge, one son Michael R. Hubbard and his wife Cynda Hubbard of Cambridge, four grandchildren Lisa Hubbard of Cambridge, Shannon Collis and her husband Justin Collis of Delmar, MD, Patrick Johnstone of Norwood, MA and Jill Johnstone of Providence, R.I., two great grandchildren Shelby Collis and Chase Collis. She is also survived by two step sons Richard Patterson and his wife Ellen Patterson of Baltimore and James Patterson and his wife Elizabeth Patterson of Madison, N.J. and three step grandchildren Sarah Rose Patterson, James Patterson and Kent Patterson, two sisters Hazel Waldron of Martinsville, N.J. and Eleanor Brightenback of Bonita Springs, FL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her first husband she was preceded in death by a son Daniel L. Hubbard, one sister Ruth Waldron and one brother Robert Byrne.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell and the Rev. Sarah Waldron officiating. Interment will follow at the Spedden Seward Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 PM on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be Patrick Johnstone, Richard Patterson, James Patterson, Dick Boyce, John W. Thomas, and M. Hollie Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Stewart and Frank Tisch.
