Richard L. Brown, Sr., 75, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Dorchester General Hospital. He was born in Hoopers Island on August 14, 1933 and was a son of the late Raymond and Helen Phillips Brown, Jr.
Mr. Brown graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War. He was an electrician and worked with IBEW Local Union #24. On September 21, 2006 he married the former Janet Pittman. Some of his hobbies were wood working, drawing, golf, model boat building and was an avid reader. He was a member of the American Legion Post 91, Cambridge Lodge #1272 BPOE Elks, Cambridge Moose and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW.
He is survived by his wife Janet Brown of Cambridge, 2 daughters Kelly V. Costantino of Maitland, FL and JoAnn Bowen of Blauvelt, NY, two sons Richard L. "Speedy" Brown, Jr. of Cordova and James E. Brown of Cambridge and eight grandchildren. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Ella Sinclair Brown who passed away on March 6, 2004.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Dustin Ives and Rev. Kevin English officiating. The interment will be private. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
