Alice V. Outten, 88, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Cambridge on September 14, 1922 and was a daughter of the late Nolan J. and Alverda Green McCarter.
Mrs. Outten graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1939. On November 21, 1942 she married Benjamin F. Outten, Jr. He passed away on March 14, 1984. In her early years she worked for Phillips Packing Company as a secretary. She was also owner/ operator of Glam-O-Rama Beauty Salon and later was a homemaker. Mrs. Outten was a member of Trappe United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and she was also a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She also taught Bible Study. Mrs. Outten was also member of Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons Frank Outten III and wife Sheridan of Cambridge and U.S. Coast Guard Chief David Outten (retired) and wife Kathy of Salisbury, two grandchildren Allyson Kennedy and husband Michael Kennedy of Middletown, DE and First Sergeant Matthew Outten (retired) and wife Cathy of Waynesville, Missouri, five great grandchildren Chris Outten, Josh Outten, Kaleigh Kennedy, Madeline Kennedy and Jake Kennedy, sister Bonnie Bell and husband Willis of Cambridge and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Outten is preceded in death by a brother James F. McCarter, M.D.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park with Rev. Fred Bahr officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, c/o Scott Daniels, 205 Maryland Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
