Alice L. Peters, 93, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at her daughter's home. She was born in Dorchester County on October 11, 1917 and was a daughter of the late Craig and Lilly Willey Lowe.
Mrs. Peters attended schools in Cambridge. On May 9, 1940 she married Franklin H. Peters. He passed away on May 23, 1988. Mrs. Peters had previously worked for Rob Roy, Western Printing and Foxwell's Tastee Freeze. Most of her life she was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, canning and her flower gardens. Mrs. Peters was a member of Beckwith United Methodist Church for many years and active with the Strawberry and Apple Festivals. She currently is a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and loved hearing her family singing in the Praise Band. She was a member of the Dorchester County AARP and the Neck District Fire Company.
She is survived by two sons Franklin "Frankie" Peters (Sara Louise) and Raymond "Barney" Peters (Shirley), a daughter Alice Ann Ofano, a sister Madeline Slacum all of Cambridge, five grandchildren Patti Sue Glessner (Jack), Ryan C. Peters, David Peters (Keri), Heather McGlaughlin (Scott) and Jessica Ofano, six great grandchildren Steffi Webster, Kinsley Peters, Lauren McGlaughlin, Kelsey McGlaughlin, Aaron McGlaughlin and Lilly Peters and four step great grandchildren Shelby, Sam, Jordan and Alex Glessner. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Peters is preceded in death by four brothers Ike, Hubert, Cecil and William Lowe and two sisters Mary Hurley and Nettie Slacum.
Pallbearers will be David Peters, Ryan Peters, Paul Hurley, Steve Hurley, Jay Harrington and William "Buddy" Lowe. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces Linda Hallinean, Georgia Wheatley, Peggy Wroten, Brenda Davis, Bonnie Lenox, Elizabeth Wheatley, Ann Slacum and Beth Hurley.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Bahr officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church Shadow of the Steeple, c/o Scott Daniels, 205 Maryland Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Neck District Fire Company Ambulance Fund, 945 Cooks Point Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
