He attended schools in Madison.
Al had served in the U.S. Army from 1930 until 1933 and during WW II was involved in transporting ammunition as a civilian. For 17 years Al had been a race car driver in NASCAR.
He moved back to Cambridge in 1960 and had worked for many years as a transmission mechanic for Tony Handley and also operating his own business. On July 7, 1989 he was married to the former Geneva Fitzhugh. She passed away on July 7, 2007. Al was a longstanding member of Cambridge Lodge No. 1272 B.P.O.E. Al had been an avid sports fan for many years and enjoyed following the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles and was also an avid NASCAR fan and in particular Tony Stewart. He had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center for several years when he passed away on Friday evening.
Survivors include two granddaughters Kathleen Burton of Sykesville and Karen Parrish and her husband Randy Parrish of Westminster and two great grand granddaughters Katelyn Parrish and Brittany Parrish of Westminster and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a son Wayne M. Burton who passed away on September 21, 2009 and two sisters Evelyn Shorter and Hazel Bramble.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Dorchester General Hospital, P.O. Box 439, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Burton
, 95 of Cambridge, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge of Friday October 9, 2009. He was born at Madison on January 19, 1914 and was a son of the late Walter Harrison and Etta Fitzhugh Burton.
