Alvin Oberender Jr., 86 of Carney, MD passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020. He was the son of the late Alvin Oberender Sr. and Beatrice (nee Deuchler) Oberender. In May of 1955 he married the former Lois Hammond.
As a youth, “Bud” enjoyed many hobbies including collecting stamps, coins, fishing, Boy Scouts and being on the American Legion Baseball Team, Parkville Post 183, Maryland Champions in 1951. He was a member of CWA Local Union 2101. He was a life member of the Train Collectors of America (TCA), joining in 1977, collecting and trading toy trains at train meets. He became a meet volunteer for the Eastern Division Semi-Annual Meeting in York, PA. In the 1980’s he became the White Hall Captain a position that he held until he had to give it up in 2017. You could always count on Bud to be ready to play a hand of cards or a game of dominos.
In the early 1970’s Bud and his wife bought a home in Crocheron, in Lower Dorchester County where he enjoyed crabbing with his sons and wife during the summer months. Once he retired from his job at the phone company in the summer of 1986, he remained active by crabbing commercially for another 10 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois (nee Hammond) Oberender; his four sons Alvin Oberender III and wife Kelly, Dale Oberender and wife Barbara, Ronald Oberender and wife Donna, Mark Oberender and wife Karen; six grandchildren Megan, Michael, Jennifer, Zachary, Eric and Ryan; 6 great grandchildren; his sister Maxine Seyboth and two brothers David Oberender and wife Alice, Richard Oberender; and his nieces and nephews.
