She attended elementary schools at Hudson and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1935. On June 4, 1940 she was married to Arthur M. Brooks. Mr. Brooks passed away on December 16, 1998. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Whitehaven United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Church Creek Fire Co. Some years ago she worked at the Rob Roy Co in Cambridge and also worked at Leonard Simmons Canning House as well as the Maryland Department of Forest & Parks working at the Church Creek Fire Tower. Mrs. Brooks had worked with her husband in the family business for many years. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, crocheting, bowling and cooking. Mrs. Brooks had been in failing health for the past several months and had been a patient at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge for the past month where she passed away on Monday morning.
Survivors include a son Robert M. "Bobby" Brooks and his wife Deanna Brooks of Church Creek, one daughter Doris Brooks Brashier and her husband Lee Brashier of New Bern, N.C., two grandchildren Bonnie Howard of Church Creek and Barbara Stack and her husband Steve Stack of East New Market, four great grandchildren, C.J. Howard, Bobbi Lee Howard, Stephen Stack and Trevor Stack. She is also survived by a brother Charles Marshall and his wife Deanna Marshall of Cambridge. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters Martha Wright and Margaret Mills and one brother Wilbur Parrott, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Robert G. Kirkley and the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitehaven United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Jeannie Ewell, 5134 Paw Paw Point Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Church Creek Vol. Fire Co., P.O. Box 16, Church Creek, MD 21622. Pallbearers will be Jeff Edgar, Steve Edgar, Mike Rossy, Bill Foxwell, Kenny Mason and Wayne Simmons.
