Anna L. "Polly" Hubbard, 89, of Golden Hill passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born on July 22, 1924 in Golden Hill and was a daughter of the late Goldsborough and Mildred Wallace Gootee.
Polly attended schools in the South Dorchester area and also attended Goldey Beacom College. On February 1, 1948, she married Edgar Joseph Hubbard who passed away on December 21, 1998. She had worked for Sears and I.F. Cannon as a bookkeeper and also at Gootee's Restaurant which was owned by her brother. Polly enjoyed gardening, was a cat lover and an excellent seamstress. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member of the Adult Bible School class where she had outstanding attendance for many years.
She is survived by a sister Mildred Shorter of Golden Hill, a sister in law Irene Gootee of Golden Hill, a godchild Dwane Paul of Golden Hill and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and her husband, Polly is preceded in death by three brothers Philip Gootee, William Leonard Gootee and Hoover Gootee and a sister Frances Paul.
Pallbearers will be Dwane Paul, Henry Gootee, Larry Gootee, Ricky Shorter, Nelson Marshall and Bruce McWilliams. Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Paul,Billy Gootee and Tommy Gootee.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 1p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Crouch officiating. Interment will follow at the adjoining churchyard. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Memorial Fund, c/o Doris Lewis, 3347 Golden Hill Road, Church Creek, MD 21622. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
