Trappe

Ansley B. “Lee” Bryer, Jr., 83, of Trappe passed away on March 25, 2023 at Compass Barnette Center in Centreville.  He was born at Rahway Hospital, Rahway, NJ on July 3, 1939 to the late Ansley Bedell Bryer, Sr. and Charlotte Humiston Bryer.

Lee graduated from Rahway High School in 1957.  Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he spent three years in England monitoring Morse code messaging.  He was also on the rugby team. On June 13, 1970, Lee married the former Patricia Gagliardo.

After the service, Lee worked at Forster Wheller and attended Union County College.  Not liking a desk job, he became a helper on a fuel oil truck with a friend.  He purchased his own truck and, working through local fuel companies, he delivered home heating oil and grew his business by adding another vehicle.  He sold his trucks and retired in December 2001.  Lee was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with friends and on a league.  He also enjoyed hunting deer and fowl.  Lee was a member of the Cambridge Skeet & Gun Club.

Lee is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Bryer, of Trappe; his niece Kimberley Botts Franklin and her sons, his nephew Lee Botts and his sons all of Georgia; his sister in law Deborah Gagliardo and her three sons, Gary, Christopher, and Matthew, as well as 8 great nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Lee is preceded in death by his sister Charlotte Lynn Botts.

A celebration of Lee’s life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Disabled American Vets Eastern Shore Chapter 34, P.O. Box 3337, Salisbury, MD 21802.  Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A.
