Anthony P. "Tony" LeCompte

Anthony P. "Tony" LeCompte, 68 of Laurel, DE, formerly of Linkwood, passed away at his home on Sunday July 12, 2009. He was born in Cambridge on August 9, 1940, and was a son of the late Granville S. and Winnie Belle Pattison LeCompte.

He attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Randolph Macon Military Academy at Front Royal, VA in 1959 where he was a member of the rifle team and won the Wm. Randolph Hearst Trophy. He also graduated from American Academy of Mortuary Science in New York in 1960. He had worked in the family business, LeCompte Funeral Service in Cambridge for a number of years. He had also owned Dorchester Memorial Park in Cambridge for many years and had also owned Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton for several years. He earned his captains license in 1973 and had operated the buy boat Katie S. for Capt. Willie Parks, and later owned and operated the tugboat Condor for a number of years. Tony had worked in the monument business since he was 13 years old. He had been in the monument business in Cambridge and for the past 20 years he had been operating LeCompte Monument Co. in Laurel, Delaware and for the past five years had also been operating All Granite Interiors, which supplies granite counter tops. The monument business was started in 1898 by Tony's great grandfather and is being continued by Tony's son. He was a member of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M, Chesapeake Forest # 115 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, active member of the Talbot Rod & Gun Club, Bridgeville Rifle Range, former member of the Cambridge Yacht Club and Cambridge Skeet Club. Tony enjoyed boating, fishing, crabbing and hunting. He had been in failing health for the past several weeks when he passed away at his home on Sunday afternoon.

Survivors include a daughter Ellen LeCompte Ferguson and her husband Bart S. Ferguson of Trappe, one son Tony M. LeCompte and his wife Jennifer A. LeCompte of Woolford, two grandsons Alexander Granville "Alex" LeCompte and Stephen Joseph LeCompte, his companion of 14 years Judy Rogers of Laurel, DE, and her three sons Thomas Rogers of Laurel, Keith Rogers and his family of Efland, NC and Kevin Rogers and his family of Townsend, DE., and two nephews Gordon Triplett and Edward Triplett and their families. He is also survived by the mother of his children Carolyn LeCompte of Woolford and a sister in Law Dr. Eleanor Noon Triplett and her husband Bill Triplett of Woolford.

A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Robert G. Kirkley officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home where members of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a Masonic Memorial Service at 8:00 PM.
