Audrey L. Shannahan, 84, of Laurel, DE formerly of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, October, 11, 2011 at Salisbury Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born in Seaford, DE on October 13, 1926 and was a daughter of the late George E. and Ethel Moore Townsend.
She graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1944. She was married to Henry Steele Shannahan. He passed away on May 6, 2006. Mrs. Shannahan worked as a waitress at the High Spot for 30 years and retired in 1996. Mrs. Shannahan enjoyed traveling to France, Hawaii and numerous Army Posts in the Continental U.S. She was a member of American Legion Post #91 Auxiliary, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW Auxiliary where she was past president 3 times, treasurer for 18 years and VFW District 4 past president.
She is survived by a daughter Deborah Vincent and husband Rolland CW03 U.S. Army (Ret.) of Laurel, DE, two sons Eugene Shannahan CW03 Coast Guard (Ret.) of Houma, LA and Jeffrey Shannahan Lt. Col. U.S. Army (Ret.) of Tampa, FL; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mrs. Shannahan is preceded in death by a son Michael Shannahan, a granddaughter Tanya M. Vincent, two sisters Mildred Stokes and Edna Petts and three brothers Fred Townsend, Thomas Townsend and Edward Townsend.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Post #91 Auxiliary, P.O. Box 733, Cambridge, MD 21613, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW Auxiliary, 115 Sandy Hill Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Cambridge Lions Club, P.O. Box 104, Cambridge, MD 21613.
