Barbara M. Conn, 78, of Salisbury formerly of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Wicomico Nursing Home. During her final years she was well cared for by the dedicated staffs of various medical establishments. She was born on October 23, 1930 and grew up in Cambridge, Maryland. Barbara was the daughter of the late Bernard Conn and Margaret North Eason.
Ms. Conn graduated from Cambridge High School. During the last 35 years, she worked in sales for a variety of businesses throughout the middle and lower shore. Barbara was with Morning Star Publications at the time of her retirement in 2006. In her earlier years she was a beautician and managed a shop in Easton for her late mother Margaret Eason. She was Ms. Choptank in 1952 and then went on to become Queen of the Chesapeake also in 1952. Barbara studied voice with various teachers and was a well known soloist in the area. She was a past member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge where she served in the choir. In later years she attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salisbury. She was also very active in the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce and other business groups. In addition to spending time with her children and grandchildren, Ms. Conn enjoyed reading, old movies and visiting the beach in Ocean City. Music also continued to be a life long source of happiness.
She is survived by two sons Rodney Dean of Ocean City and Edward J. Dean of Salisbury and six grandchildren. Besides her parents, Ms. Conn is preceded in death by a brother Gordon Conn and her step father Albert Eason.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Sam McWilliams officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Parkinson Disease Assoc., 4049 Oakland School Rd., Salisbury MD 21804 or to Zion United Methodist Church, 612 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
