Berlia P. Gunter

Berlia P. Gunter, 89, of Georgetown, DE, formerly of Cambridge passed away on Friday, April 24, 2009 at her home. She was born in Hoopers Island on September 2, 1919 and was a daughter of the late Carlton and Rona Tolley Phillips.

Mrs. Gunter attended school in Hoopers Island. On July 23, 1938 she married Edwin Earl Gunter. He passed away on December 6, 2003. She was homemaker. Mrs. Gunter enjoyed camping, quilting, crocheting and looking after her grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters Janice Jones and husband Tom of Georgetown, DE, Mary Lee Wheatley and husband Jim of Trappe and Lula Elliott and husband Ernest of Trappe, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a sister Beatrice Brittingham of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Gunter is preceded in death by two brothers Lloyd Phillips and Manford Phillips and a sister Norma Murrell.

Pallbearers will be Ernest Elliott, David Nabb, Scott Nabb, Bryan Nabb, Tom Jones, Jr. and James Wheatley.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Vitas Hospice Service, Suite #5, Milford, DE 19963.
