Bessie O. Franz, 83, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born in Shiloh on June 14, 1926 and was a daughter of the late James Dawson and Ruby Rhodes Collison.
Mrs. Franz graduated from Vienna High School. She worked at DuPont in Seaford and later at Maryland Plastics in Federalsburg. On June 23, 1955 she married John A. Franz, Jr. He passed away on November 11, 2003. Mrs. Franz enjoyed oil painting, listening to music and playing the piano. She was a member of the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son John Adam Franz, III of Cambridge, two sisters Kathleen Shannahan of Cabin Creek and Jean Dew of Federalsburg and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Franz is preceded in death by two brothers Paul R. Collison and James D. Collison and a sister Ann Nichols.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at noon at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Richard Prahl officiating. Burial will be private. Family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice.
