Bessie Elizabeth Harrah 83, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Trappe on May 23, 1926 and was a daughter of the late Burton and Agnes Hubbard Jackson, Sr.
She attended schools in Dorchester County. Mrs. Harrah was a nurse at the Eastern Shore State Hospital until 1961. She moved to Baltimore and worked at Franklin Square Hospital for a few years. Later she moved to West Virginia and worked at a hospital there until 1976. She moved back to the Eastern Shore and lived in Eldorado.
She is survived by two daughters Kathy Kline of West Virginia and Mary Gehring and husband Jim of Federalsburg, a brother Wallace Jackson and wife Joan of California, a sister Peggy Sizemore and husband Bill of East New Market, nine grandchildren Steven Barnett, Richard Barnett and wife Cindy, Theresa Ferris and husband George, Lisa Kinnikin and husband James, Robert French, Audra McDorman, Joseph Lilly, Brittney Kline and Jeremy Knode. Besides her parents, Mrs. Harrah is preceded in death by her husband Hazard Harrah, a daughter Linda French, a son Charlton Fox Cline, three sisters Shirley Smith, Aileen Greenhawk and Margaret O'Ferrall, four brothers Joseph Jackson, Burton Jackson, Jr., Benjamin Jackson and James Jackson.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with Rev. Alton King officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
