Betty Dean Andrews, 79 of Cambridge, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Saturday April 18, 2009. She was born at Hoopers Island on July 31, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Roland Floyd and Claudie Simmons Dean.

She moved to Cambridge as a young girl and attended schools here, graduating from Cambridge High School in 1946. On June 12, 1955 she was married to Harry "Beaner" Andrews. Mr. Andrews passed away on March 4, 2009. She had worked at the People's Savings & Loan in Cambridge, and stayed with the bank through several mergers and was with BB&T when she retired in 1989 after 43 years of service. After her retirement she enjoyed winter vacations in Florida and summer vacations in Ocean City. Mrs. Andrews was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge for many years, and was a charter member of the Zionite Class and the Eunice Sluyter Circle of Zion Church and had been active in soup days and various other church activities. She was also a member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion Auxiliary, Cambridge Yacht Club and the Does of Cambridge Lodge No. 1272 B.P.O.E. Mrs. Andrews had been in failing health for several months and was taken to Dorchester General Hospital on Friday night, where she passed away on Saturday afternoon.

Survivors include four sisters in law Jeanne Roesch and her husband Walter Roesch of Rockville, Mary Lou Harding and her husband William of Cambridge, Barbara Wise of Mesa, AZ and Ruth Ann Andrews of Salisbury, two close friends Charlotte Booze and her husband Leslie Booze of Cambridge and Mary Jane Meekins and her husband Dewey Meekins of Cambridge, three godchildren Judith Kahn of Rockville, Cynthia Richardson of Palm Harbor, FL and Chuck Booze of Salisbury and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister in law Aris Ann Johnson and a brother in law Walter R. Andrews and a godchild Virginia Booze.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Samuel H. McWilliams officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of Zion United Methodist Church, 612 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 Pallbearers will be Ronald Andrews, Stuart Brittingham, Mark Meekins, Chuck Booze, Jackie Bowers, Kevin Harding and Eddie Dean. Honorary Bearers will be Dewey Meekins, Leslie Booze, Dickie Lowry, Fred Phillips, Gary Shockley, Jamie Insley, Bill Harding and Walter Roesch.
