Betty Lou Waller Bateman, 65 of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born in Cambridge on February 2, 1944 and was a daughter of the late Donald C. and Willa Lankford Marshall and was raised by Howard and Mildred Hall.

Mrs. Bateman graduated from Cambridge High School in 1962. She had worked for The Daily Banner, Leggett's Department Store, was a private sitter and worked at McDonalds. Later, she was a homemaker.A On March 17, 1992 she married Gary D. Bateman. He passed away on November 3, 2000. Mrs. Bateman was an avid reader. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Dr. Hines Bible Class.

She is survived by a son Kenneth W. Waller of Elliott Island, a granddaughter Alexandra Waller, two brothers Charles L. Marshall of Cambridge and R. Wayne Marshall of East New Market, three sisters Jane Wright of Seaford, DE, Sylvia Trice and Howardene Brem both of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Bateman is preceded in death by a brother Donald F. Marshall.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street in Cambridge with Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 91, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
