Betty E. Hastings, 88, of Cambridge departed this earth to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Robbins on March 18, 1926 and was a daughter of the late William Parks Abbott and Lorraine Robbins Abbott.
Betty attended schools in Dorchester County and resided in Robbins in her younger life before moving to the Cambridge area where she remained. Betty worked at Rob Roy Sewing Factory for a number of years, but her life was waitressing at Town & Country, Ms. Ruby Saulisbury's and Jim's Drive In. She finally retired at 75, but really didn't want to.
Miss Betty was an excellent cook! Loved to just put things together without a recipe and was always delicious. In her early years, she enjoyed camping with family and friends, sitting around the camp fire singing. Recently she enjoyed going to the auction sales until her declined health.
Betty leaves behind her husband Harold Ray Hastings, whom she married on December 17, 1977, a son Logan Fitzhugh and wife Diane "Donnie", grandchildren Debbie Webster, Laura Fitzhugh, Rhonda Mitchell, Jamie and Brian Fitzhugh, twelve great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, three stepsons Spanky Hastings and wife Sherry, Mark Hastings and Harold Hastings and a number of step grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Mae Fitzhugh, Lottie King, Joy Hohlbein, Loretta Dibble, half sisters and brothers Shirley Hicks, Marie Dryden, Harvey Abbott, Sr., Mary Diane Jones, Wylie Abbott, Carolyn Simmons, Parks Abbott, Barbara Jean Willey, James Abbott and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her first husband James William Fitzhugh, a son James William Fitzhugh, Jr., a sister Ramona Lankford, two brothers Harold and William Abbott, a granddaughter Crystal Fitzhugh and half sister Darlene Kimble.
Pallbearers will be Kyle and Grant Powley, Jamie and Brian Fitzhugh, Spanky Hastings and Walter Lee Travers, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 1p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
