Betty J. Vickers

Betty J. Vickers, 89, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born in Cambridge on March 5, 1925 and was a daughter of the late Leslie and Anna Creighton Jones.

She graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1943. On April 14, 1946 she married Joseph Wendell Vickers, Jr., who passed away on February 2, 1994. Mrs. Vickers was a bookkeeper with several local businesses. She enjoyed traveling, dancing and going to the beach. Mrs. Vickers was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cambridge Lodge #1272, B.P.O.E. Elks, American Legion Post #91, Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW.

She is survived by a daughter Lynne Redmer and husband Skip of East New Market, two sons Leslie W. Vickers and wife Diana of Tampa, FL and Gregory Vickers and wife Terri Bernard of Magnolia, DE, six grandchildren Scott Redmer, Jennifer Redmer, Alyssa Lindsey, Elizabeth Vickers, Andrew Vickers and Heather Robbins, 11 great grandchildren, two sisters Anna Lee Patterson of Cambridge and Peggy Rue of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Blades and a brother William Wylie Jones.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Dale Brown and Rev. Terri Bernard officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803, Alzheimers Association, 909 Progress Circle, Ste. 400, Salisbury, MD 21804 or to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 205 Maryland Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613.
