Betty Lee (Moore) White

Betty Lee Moore White, 84, of Cambridge died on February 11, 2016 at her home. She was the co-founder of Johnny’s Shoe Shop.

Betty was born in Chestertown, MD on June 6, 1931, to the late John Wesley and Ida Jones Moore.

Betty attended schools in Kent County and spent her youth working on the family farm. A long with her husband, she was a very active and supportive member of the Richardson Maritime Museum.

She was an active member of the Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church for 66 years. She was dedicated to and loved her church, holding a number of offices during her lifetime including Sabbath School teacher and church treasurer. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and was an avid cookbook collector. She was very organized both at home and in keeping the books for the shoe store.

On November 3, 1949, Betty married John Curtis White, Sr. of Cambridge, Maryland, who passed away on January 15, 2015. Betty is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John Curtis, Jr., and Sue Locklear White. He is also survived by three granddaughters and their husbands: Caroline Baker and Thomas A. Howell, V., Victoria Ashley and John Charles Willey, and Elizabeth Locklear and John Robert Russell, III. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Thomas A. Howell, VI, John White Howell, Eleanor Jones Howell, Kathleen Patricia Stanley, and Nathan Andrew Willey. In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty is predeceased by an infant daughter, Victoria Lynn, three sisters, Eva Kasper, Ethel Barnes and Helen Skeggs and two brothers Howard Moore and Claude Moore.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3105 Mallard Court, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
