Betty E. Dennis, 96, of Eldersburg, MD formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at Northwest Hospital Center in Randallstown, Maryland. She was born in Cambridge on November 15, 1926 and was a daughter of the late Harry and Clara Belle Johnson Smith.
Mrs. Dennis graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1945. Subsequent to her graduation, she attended nursing school at Dorchester General Hospital where she attained her LPN. Mrs. Dennis worked many years there and at the Eastern Shore State Hospital. On November 26, 1947, she married Allen L. Dennis, who passed away on July 27, 1994. Mrs. Dennis enjoyed reading, word search, watching westerns, and being with friends and family. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son Joseph A. Dennis and wife Patricia of Eldersburg, MD, four grandchildren Joshua, Michael, Jacob and Jessica, seven great grandchildren, Rileigh, Sophie, Remmi, Tate, Autumn, Andi and Lincoln, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Dennis is preceded in death by two sons Allen L. Dennis, Jr. and Shane D. Dennis, and a daughter in law Karin A. Dennis, a brother Jack Smith, a sister Catherine Wheeler and a half-brother Johnson Phillips.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Dennis, Joshua Dennis, Michael Dennis, Matthew Roach, Kemper Cave, and Joseph Dennis.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 1 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Chris Pettit officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A celebration of her life will be held on December 30, 2022 at Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department from 1 to 3pm for friends of the family in the Eldersburg area. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bridging Life, 200 Memorial Avenue Westminster, MD 21157.
