Bonnie Gay Willey, 67, of Taylors Island passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018. She was born in Cambridge on February 27, 1951 and was a daughter of the late Thomas Risdon Powley and Carrie Flowers Powley. Bonnie Gay was raised by her aunt and uncle Nellie Mills Flowers and the late Marcus Flowers, Sr.
Bonnie Gay graduated from South Dorchester High School class of 1969. On December 31, 1990, she married Michael Willey. Bonnie Gay was a true example of what an Eastern Shore woman was. She spent her life earning a living working the waterways of Dorchester County. Bonnie Gay owned and worked on her own boat by the age of 23; she was one of the first women to captain her own boat. She was also the owner of Willey’s Seafood in Taylors Island.
She is survived by her aunt who she considered her second mother, Nellie Flowers of Fishing Creek, her husband Michael Willey of Taylors Island, four daughters Heather Sedwick (Chris) of Easton, Kathy Willey (TC) of Hurlock, Priscilla Rogers (Wayne) of Rhodesdale and Ashley Koski (Richard) of Hurlock, Bonnie Gay is also survived by her loving grandchildren Jade, Richie, Emma-Lyn, Autumn, Marlee, Haven, Madalyn and Logan, her brothers Thomas “Bubby” Powley (Linda), Larry “Boo” Powley, Marcus Flowers, Jr. (Teresa) and a sister Rhonda Aaron (Larry), brother in law Danny Tolley, a goddaughter Dawn Rogers Morris and a godson Justin Aaron and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her uncle Marcus Flowers, who she considered her second father, a sister Diane Tolley and numerous aunts, uncles and loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Heather Sedwick, Amber McGinnis, Holli Anderson, Dakota Flowers, Shannon Chambers, Charlotte Bramble, Caitlin Cannon, and Chrissy Nicolosi.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 12 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Mr. Keith Graffius officiating. Family will receive friends Thursday evening form 6 to 8 and from 10:30 to 12 on Friday. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery.
