Bonnie T. Fitzhugh, 73, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Fishing Creek on November 15, 1944 and was a daughter of the late William V. Travers, Sr. and Alice Creighton Travers.
Bonnie grew up in Hoopers Island and Cambridge area all her life and graduated from South Dorchester High School in 1962. She retired from the State of Maryland with 25 years of service, working in the accounting and administration profession and had worked at GKD for 13 years since retirement. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her grandchildren and her family. Bonnie was a member of Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Church, and Dr. Hines Bible Class.
She is survived by her son Ricky Fitzhugh (Debbie) of Cambridge, a daughter Debbie Guessford of Cambridge, four grandchildren Allison Fitzhugh of Cambridge, Jessica Horseman (Benny) of Madison, Kayla Guessford (Kenny Rider) of Cambridge, and Megan Guessford of Laurel, DE, a great granddaughter Lillian Guessford of Laurel, DE, a brother Calvin Travers (Joane) of Fishing Creek, two sisters Faye Williams and husband Ronnie of Salisbury and Peggy Cannon and husband Timmie of Cambridge, very special sister in laws Beverly Travers of Cambridge and Virginia Todd of Wingate, special nieces Judy Rippons, Dianna Travers and Barbara Hochreiner and numerous other nieces and nephews. Also two special friends Donna Payne and Tammy Wielgosz. Besides her parents, Ms. Fitzhugh is preceded in death by three brothers Leroy Travers, William Travers, Jr. and Mike Travers, and four sisters Ruth Travers, Betty Heiser, Doris Parks and Olive Truitt.
Pallbearers will be Tom Powley, Scott Murphy, Wally Reed, Benny Horseman, Ricky Travers, Sr., and Joe Truitt, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be John Pyle, Henry Gootee, Darren Bromwell, John Meninger, Brad Walters, Doug Walters, Rick Travers, Jr., Ryan Travers, Rob Travers, Randy Travers, Kenny Rider, and Ronnie Williams.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 11 am at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev.’s Daniel Gedman and Jay Hurley officiating. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 to 8 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Relay for Life Team Lifesavers, 408 Robbins Farm Road, Cambridge, MD 21613, Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 815, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to a charity of choice.
