C. Lovenia Brooks

C. Lovenia Brooks, 94 of Cambridge, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. She was born in Cambridge on June 7, 1916, and was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lena Schuyler Raymond.

She attended schools in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High school in 1933. On September 16, 1934 she was married to Wallace S. "Cy" Brooks, Sr. He passed away on June 24, 1996. Some years ago she had worked at the Bogash Shirt Factory and had also worked as an S&H Green Stamp representative for a number of years. She later drove a school bus for Milford and Patsy Foxwell, and later worked as a desk clerk at the Quality Inn Motel in Cambridge, and later for DDU. Mrs. Brooks had been a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cambridge since August 13, 1944, where she had been pianist for the Richardson Bible Class as well as regular worship services at St. Paul's Church. Mrs. Brooks had also accompanied Joe Bennett who sang in many places in the area some years ago. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and traveling with her husband to Florida as long as she could. She had been a resident at Chesapeake Woods for almost five years where she still enjoyed playing piano and playing dominoes and Bingo.

Survivors include two daughters Lena Wallis Fitzhugh and her husband James H. Fitzhugh of Cambridge and Donna Engle and her husband Andy Engle of East New Market. She is also survived by three grandsons Mark Engle and his wife Cathy Engle of Jacksonville, FL, Kirk Engle and his wife Amy Engle of Eldersburg, MD and James W. Fitzhugh and his wife Lisa Fitzhugh of Powhatan, VA, seven great grandchildren Lindsay Engle, Ellen Engle, Nathan Engle, Patrick Engle, Amanda Fitzhugh, Ashley Fitzhugh and Abigail Fitzhugh, and one brother James P. Raymond and his wife Sandy P. Raymond of Cambridge, three nieces and several cousins. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Wallace S. Brooks, Jr., three daughters Jackie Claire Brooks, Janet Kay Brooks and Shelly Ann Brooks and two great grandchildren Austin Engle and Ellison Engle and a brother Schuyler Raymond.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be Mark Engle, Kirk Engle, James Fitzhugh, Nathan Engle, Kevin Asplen and Doug Todd.
