C. John Ciekot, 88, of Cambridge passed away on August 3, 2008 at his residence. He was born at Middle River, MD on July 30, 1920 and was a son of the late Stanislaus and Josephine Bender Ciekot.
Mr. Ciekot attended schools in Baltimore County. On Sept. 12, 1942 he married the former Mildred Tomas. She passed away on September 7, 2000. As a young man he worked for Rustless Steel Company in Baltimore before joining the U.S. Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1944 until he received his honorable discharge in 1946. He received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, The American Theater Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal. He served on the USS Eldorado AGC-11 under Admiral R.K. Turner. After serving his country, Mr. Ciekot worked at an ESSO Service Station on Eastern Avenue in Baltimore County before operating his own ESSO Service Station on Mace Ave. in Essex. He and his wife moved to Morris Neck in 1960. Some of his hobbies were playing golf, hunting, crabbing, fishing, gardening and traveling. He was a member of American Legion Post 91, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, Clearview at Horn's Point and MISGA.
He is survived by a daughter Bonnie McCollister and husband Steve of Morris Neck, a son Daniel T. Ciekot and wife Wanda of Morris Neck, a grandson David Ciekot of Cambridge and a granddaughter Amanda Jo Willey and husband Brian of Cambridge, a great granddaughter Kaci L. Willey, brothers and sisters Joseph Ciekot, Victoria Miller, Sophie Draayer, Frances Hawkins, Stan Ciekot and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Ciekot is preceded in death by a sister Jenny Jones.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 7th at 4 p.m. at Connelly Funeral Home, 300 Mace Avenue, Essex, MD 21221 with a visitation from 3 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. A second memorial service will be held on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Officiating the service will be Rev. Jay Hurley and Rev. Douglas M. Ridley. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery near Hurlock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O.
