C. Robert North

C. Robert North, 83 of Cambridge, passed away at his home on Wednesday May 27, 2009. He was born at Cornersville on June 18, 1925, and was a son of the late Robert Spedden and Marian Bromwell North.

Bob attended schools in Dorchester Co. and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps., where he served as a tail gunner on a bomber and was stationed in India. On March 15, 1947 he was married to the former Phyllis Tyler. Bob had operated several service stations and used car sales in the Cambridge area for over 60 years. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church at Cornersville, Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M., Boumi Shiners, the Eastern Shore Shrine Club and Chesapeake Forest 115 Tall Cedars, Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion, and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW. Bob enjoyed boating, crabbing and fishing as well as woodworking. He had been in failing health for the past 12 months when he passed away at his home on Wednesday morning.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Phyllis T. North of Cambridge, three daughters Robin North Mathis and her husband James Mathis, Jr. of Gainesville, GA, Sandra N. Lucas and her husband Robert W. Lucas of Cambridge and Cynthia N. McBrayer of Memphis, TN and one son J.T. North and his wife Sheila C. North of Cambridge. He is also survived by five grandchildren Lori Reese-Patton and her husband Macon Patton of Charlotte, N.C., Scott R. Lucas of Cambridge, Brian F. Lucas of Cambridge, Tyler R. North of Cambridge and Trevor J. North of Cambridge, one great grandson Macon James Patton of Charlotte, N.C. a close cousin David Bromwell of Cambridge and several sisters in law.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Walter Reuschling and the Rev. Burtis Tyler officiating. Interment will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge where members of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a Masonic Memorial service at 8:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Scott R. Lucas, Brian F. Lucas, Tyler R. North, Trevor J. North, James Mathis, Jr., Robert W. Lucas and Macon Patton. Honorary bearers will be David Bromwell, Robert L. Wheatley, Melvin Turner, John White, Eugene Henry, Richard Messick, Harold E. Carr, Eddie Hunteman and Kent Collins. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Chapel c/o Mr. James Lewis, 1213 Hudson Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the American Diabetes Assoc., 114 Baptist Street, Salisbury, MD 21801.
