Charles Beckwith Roberson a longtime delivery man for the Granville Hooper Fuel Oil Company and later the Murphy Oil Company passed away on June 11, 2011 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was 97. Mr. Roberson was born in Dorchester County on March 3, 1914 and was a son of the late John F. and Minnie Estelle Beckwith Roberson.
Beck was a resident of Dorchester County for his entire life. In his early years he had worked with his father in farming and had enjoyed hunting. In later years he mainly enjoyed socializing with his many friends. He had been in the U.S. Army for a brief period during WWII. He received a medical discharge for an impaired knee. Mr. Roberson had been a mason for 50 years with Cambridge Lodge #66 A.F. & A.M. and recently received recognition of his service. He was also a member of Zion United Methodist Church for many years.
He is survived by his wife Althea Roberson of Cambridge, a sister Isabel Roberson of Owings Mills, a niece Stephanie Roberson-Thomas of Sanford, NC and a nephew Jeffrey Roberson of Mt. Airy, MD. Besides his parent, he is preceded in death by his first wife Cleora Roberson who passed away in 1999. He was also preceded in death by two sisters Frances Shorter and Estelle Mills and a brother Radcliffe Roberson.
A Masonic service follow by a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 1p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. William Davis officiating. Family will receive friends 12 to 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.
