C. Kenneth Travers, Sr

May 26, 1928 — February 20, 2010

C. Kenneth Travers Sr, passed away at the home of his daughter in Leesburg, VA, on Saturday, February 20. His children and family were by his side. Kenneth was born in 1928, and raised in Fishing Creek on Hoopers Island located in southern Dorchester County, Maryland. His life ended as he lived it a�" uncomplicated, quiet, non-judgmental, peaceful, dignified, and filled with grace.

He was the son of the late Gladys Aaron Travers and Robert Roland Travers, and a beloved father of four sons Ken Travers MD, Roland Travers (deceased), Joe Travers, and John Travers; and two daughters Marianne Travers and Sandy Niese. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He had many dear friends and associates, and will be especially missed by his close companion, Ms Pat Whaples.

A renowned boat builder, and active member of the Chesapeake Bay Antique and Classic Boat Society, Kenny was a great friend and asset to the boating community. He was known for his ability and willingness to mentor others in his trade. He received numerous awards in recognition of his craftsmanship, and was also honored with the Wooden Boat Enthusiast award in 2007. He was active in his community and helped to establish the Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Company and served as Fire Chief in the early years. He was an active member of the American Legion and the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday afternoon, February 28, at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. at 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, Maryland with the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley and the Rev. David Wooten officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at 2:00 for visitation prior to the service. Private interment will be Monday at Dorchester Memorial Park.
