Calvin G. Rumbley, Sr., 90, of Fallston, MD passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. He was born in Cambridge on November 5, 1923 and was a son of the late William Everett Rumbley and Miranda Gilliss Rumbley.
He graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1941, and graduated from Graduate School of Banking, University of Virginia. Mr. Rumbley served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers during WW II. He had the rank of Sergeant, serving in five campaigns in the European Theater in the 1st, 3rd and 7th Armies. He received numerous metals, ribbons and citations and was honorably discharged on December 12, 1945. On December 21, 1945, he married the former Emmeline "Amy" Bailey, who passed away on March 31, 2006.
Mr. Rumbley was a banker for 39 years, retiring on June 30, 1988 from Signet Bank as Vice President and Bank Clusters Manager. He was a Baltimore Orioles fan. Mr. Rumbley was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, life member of the Elks Lodge #1272, VFW Post #7460, American Legion Post #91 and an honorary member of Rescue Fire Company.
He is survived by his son Calvin Rumbley, Jr. and wife Kathie, grandson Brian Rumbley and wife Alaina, granddaughter Dawn Yingling and husband Brian, four great granddaughters and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Rumbley is preceded in death by a brother William E. Rumbley.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 12 to 1p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A in Cambridge followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park with Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating.
