A A A A A A A A A A A A A A Carl Edward Gillespie, 72, of Cambridge, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2008 at North Side Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL; where he was vacationing. Mr. Gillespie was the son of Mancil Clark Gillespie and Carrie Etna Doran Gillespie. He was born in McConnellsville, Ohio on March 28, 1936. He was raised and educated in Wheeling, WV, graduating from Wheeling High School in 1954. Soon after graduation he became employed with Helms Express in Triadelphia, WV as a Billing Clerk and Rate Clerk. In October, 1962, he was transferred to the Irwin, PA terminal and became Supervisor of Rating and Billing and later, Assistant Controller. Helms Express became Ryder/P.I.E. in 1984 and Mr. Gillespie was transferred to the Jacksonville, FL terminal as Internal Auditor and Director of Industrial Engineering. In December, 1990 he was forced into retirement due to company closure. Mr. Gillespie moved to Sanford, FL in June, 1992 and remained there working as a chef and chauffer for an elderly gentleman until June, 2003 when illness necessitated a move to Cambridge, MD to make his home with his sister. A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A Mr. Gillespie was a member of Cambridge Elks Lodge # 1272 where he enjoyed volunteering and socializing with friends.

He is survived by three sisters, Hazel Kerby of Wheeling, WV, Mary Hafer and her husband Carl of Sun City, AZ and Jill Cusick of Cambridge, MD with whom he resided. He is also survived by four nieces, three nephews and several cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister Betty Harlan and her husband Clyde of Glenn's Ferry, ID and one nephew Danny Cusick of Phoenix, MD formerly of Cambridge.

A memorial service will be held at the Cambridge ELKS Lodge #1272, Rt. 50 at Elks Lodge Road on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. Donations in memory of Mr. Gillespie may be made to Cambridge ELKS Lodge #1272, c/o Richard Hargis, Treasurer, P.O. Box 381, 5464 Elks Lodge Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD. A
