Carl D. Powley, 67, of Church Creek passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on December 18, 1942 and was a son of Rosa Mae Parks Pritchett and the late Carlton O'Neill Powley.
He attended schools in South Dorchester. Mr. Powley had worked as a waterman for most of his life working on various dredge boats as well as crabbing and tonging. Mr. Powley had attended Toddville United Methodist Church. He had been in failing health since early April when he passed away at his home.
He is survived by a daughter Beverly Powley of Wingate, a son Carlie D. Pwley, Jr. of Cambridge, a granddaughter Michelle Robinson, three great grandchildren Sierra Tippett, McKayla Robinson and Austin Robinson, his mother Rosa Mae Pritchett of Cambridge, one sister Peggy MacLauchlan of Cambridge, two aunts Doris Abbott and Carolyn Custis, two uncles Marvin Parks and Reginald Powley and two nieces Lisa Todd of Cambridge and Lanai Riggin and several cousins. He is also survived by two special friends Billy Newcomb and Pat Elzey.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on the lawn at 2932 Lakesville Road, on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. If it is raining the day of the gathering, it will be held at the Lakes and Straits Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or Lakes and Straits Vol. Fire Company, 2103 Farm Creek Road, Wingate, MD 21675. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
