Carroll Thomas "Jack" McClain, 86, of Cambridge passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. He was born on September 22, 1925 and was a son of the late Carroll Thomas McClain, Sr. and Viola Creighton McClain.
Jack attended school in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1942. After graduating from high school he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in Normandy and the South Pacific. He received the European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He married the former Dorothy Louise Dail on November 29, 1947. She passed away on April 21, 1992. He was a masonry contractor by trade, starting his career with Allen Tyler and Sons and later operating a business partnership with his nephew William Wingate and then owning and operating McClain Masonry with his sons for 20 years. He was a devoted member of Spedden United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. He was member of the United Methodist Men, served on the Pastor Parish Relations and was a Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, crabbing and boat building.
He is survived by his wife Doris Everhart Frosch McClain, whom he married on September 25, 1993. He is also survived by his sons Dale H. McClain and wife Kendra "Sissy" and Thomas P. McClain, his daughter Beth M. Wilson and husband Brett all of Cambridge, a stepson Kenneth M. Frosch of Alexandria, VA and a stepdaughter Sharon F. Sweet of Bowie, MD, grandchildren Jessica Sweet of Salisbury, Devin Sweet of Laurel, MD, Shawn Wingate and wife Christie of Salisbury, Victoria Wingate, Drew Wilson and Adam Wilson all of Rhodesdale, Lisa Roberts and husband Jon of Los Angeles, CA, Jeni Lewis and husband Jamie of Hurlock, Jeri Collins and husband Mike of Vienna, Michelle Steinbeck and husband Rick of Georgetown, TX, Jon Still of Kent Island, Blaire Adams and Blaine Williamson, great grandchildren Erika Cooley, Nicholas Cooley, Angela Roberts, Johnathan Roberts, Nicholas Lewis, Zachary Lewis, Chloe Lewis, Makayla Collins, MacKenzie Collins, Tony Steinbeck, Ashton Knode, Nash Knode and Kirsten Williamson. Besides his parents and his first wife, Mr. McClain is preceded in death by grandsons Adam Wingate and Brent Williamson, a stepson John Frosch and his brother Robert McClain.
Pallbearers will be Donald Bell, Bob McClain, Bill Voorhies, Marshall Wingate, Drew Wilson, Adam Wilson and Kenneth Frosch. Honorary pallbearers will be Gee McClain, Shawn Wingate, Blaine Williamson, Vernon Hughes and John Frosch.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Spedden United Methodist Church, c/o Carolyn Wright, 507 Gay Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
