Catherine Lynn Turner, born September 25, 1958, in Cambridge, MD to Major Neill J. Willoughby and Mary Willoughby, passed away on August 7, 2024.
She attended schools in Gelnhousen, Germany, Long Island, NY and Cambridge, MD.
Cathy worked at K & L Microwave for several years. She also worked at the Department of Juvenile Services as a transportation officer and was highly regarded by many with whom she worked. She was very dedicated to her job and showed great compassion for the young people she transported. After DJS, Cathy established “Shore Thing Taxi” which served the Ocean City area.
From her first pony ride at age 6 at the zoo in Frankfurt, Germany, Cathy loved horses. Her horses were her children and she was an exemplary parent to them. She had a connection and a healing touch with all animals. She loved her “2 acres in Paradise” in Salisbury, tending to her horses, squirrels, birds & cat. They were all on a “first name basis” and would come to her when called for their daily treats.
Another “love” was her ’76 CJ7 Jeep, “Dragonfly”. There was no one happier than she as she rode along the Assateague Island beachfront, viewing the wild ponies and enjoying the surf. She always welcomed the opportunity to throw a line out in hopes of catching a rockfish…with a plan to oven roast it just as she fondly remembered her grandmother, Helen Willoughby, had always done.
Cathy had a huge presence and personality, was high spirited and strong-willed. She lived her life on her terms. Being in her company was usually quite entertaining! She valued her close friendships and always expressed her appreciation, showing never ending loyalty…especially for her “sisters”. She will be sorely missed by all who loved her.
Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Major Neill J. Willoughby. She is survived by her mother, Mary Willoughby, a brother, Richard Haulet, along with her aunt, Shirley Hurley, and several cousins. She also leaves behind her precious fur babies, Brite and Kiss Cat.
A Celebration of Life party will be held on her birthday, September 25th from 6 – 9 pm at the Cambridge Elks. Everyone who knew and loved Cathy is encouraged to attend…per her wishes, the theme will be “Love and Laughter”.
Memorial contributions can be made to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or Coastal Hospice, P. O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
