Catherine S. Wheeler, 82, of Cambridge formerly of Linkwood passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at her home. She was born in Baltimore on December 28, 1927 and was a daughter of the late Harry and Clara Belle Johnson Smith.

She graduated from Cambridge High School. On January 4, 1957 she married William R. Wheeler. He passed away on July 8, 1974. Mrs. Wheeler was a switchboard operator for C&P Telephone Company. Later, she went to work for the Eastern Shore State Hospital as a switchboard operator and then moved to administration. After Mrs. Wheeler retired she worked at the Robin Hood Shop, where she was a manager. She enjoyed crocheting, wordcross puzzles and watching soap operas.


Mrs. Wheeler is survived by three children Debbie Wheeler of Cambridge, Dwayne Wheeler of Linkwood and Michael Wheeler of Magnolia, DE, two grandchildren Christy Wheeler of Washington State and Melissa Wheeler of Magnolia, DE, three great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild, a sister Betty Dennis of Cambridge, a brother Jack Smith of Linkwood and her special caregivers Kemper Cave and Linda Salvo. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Wheeler is preceded in death by two brothers Andrew Phillips and Johnson Phillips.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Jason Bleyer officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Robin Hood Shop, 416 High Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
