Cecil R. “Reggie” Murphy, 85, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Bishops Head on October 30, 1931 and was a son of the late John Orem Murphy and Cecil Jones Murphy.
Mr. Murphy attended schools in Dorchester County. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. Mr. Murphy was self employed as a grocery store owner in Cambridge. He enjoyed gardening, playing poker, fishing and boating. He was also an avid Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan. He was a member of the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, the American Legion Post 91, the Cambridge Elks, and Immanuel United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Murphy of Cambridge, two daughters Jennifer Perilli and husband Jim of Exton, PA, and Jessica Hall and husband Bryan of Church Creek, a son C.R. Murphy, Jr. and wife Susan of Salisbury, nine grandchildren Marissa, Christina and Kara Perilli, Amber Larmore and husband Toby, Derek Hall and wife Jessica, Dillon Hall, Chase Murphy, Hannah and Abby Adkins, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Murphy is preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be members of the family.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1 pm at Immanuel United Church of Christ with Pastor Dale Krotee officiating. Interment will be private on Monday at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
