She attended schools at Lakesville. On May 18, 1935 she was married to William Andrews Hughes. Mr. Hughes passed away on August 20, 1991. As a young woman she had worked on the family farm and had also worked on the water with her father and her brothers. She had also worked at the Phillips Packing Co. in Cambridge some years ago. She had attended St. John's United Methodist Church at Golden Hill. Mrs. Fitzhugh enjoyed cooking, listening to country music, watching wrestling and rodeos. She had been in failing health for the past five years and had been a resident at Chesapeake Woods Center for the past three years where she passed away on Sunday morning.
Survivors include a son Terry E. "Bo" Linthicum of Church Creek, three grandchildren Jeff Linthicum and his wife Mary Beth Linthicum of Woolford, Karen Anders and her husband Tom Anders of Lansdowne and Brandi Crouch and her husband Matt Crouch of Monticello, GA. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren Phoenix " Buzz" Bell, Jenna Linthicum, Chris Slacum, Kaylynn Anders, Emily Crouch and Will Linthicum and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Darcy Andrew Hughes, two sisters Cecil Gray, Norma Lee Brannock and two brothers Elmer Fitzhugh and J. Wilson Fitzhugh.
A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Doris K. Lewis, 3347 Golden Hill Rd., Church Creek, MD 21622. Pallbearers will be Thomas L. Brannock, Raymond Asplen, Billy Foxwell, Tom Anders, Vance Todd and Jeff Linthicum.
