Charles K. Hutchinson

Charles K. Hutchinson, 83, of Cambridge passed away on March 1, 2012 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He was born on April 8, 1928 in New Brighton, PA and was a son of the late Charles and Mabel Redmond Hutchinson.

Mr. Hutchinson graduated from Pompton Lake High School in 1946 and received his Bachelors of Management of Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1950. On November 22, 1952 he married the former Joan Boudreau. He worked as Manufacturing Manager for Domino Sugar Company in Baltimore and then Vice President of Amstar Corporation in Manhattan, New York from 1954 until 1983. Mr. Hutchinson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. At the time of his death, he was working for the Dorchester County Sanitation Commission.

Charles was well known up and down the East Coast for his advocacy on behalf of the Menhaden. Charles became known as "Mister Menhaden". As a member of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association, Dorchester Chapter, he was the recipient of the Robert E. Lee Volunteer of the year award in 2009 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the MSSA in 2012.

He is survived by his wife Joan B. Hutchinson of Cambridge, four children Lori Parker of Acworth, Georgia, Kathy Koenigsdorf of Long Island, NY, Ellen Pettingill of Delmar, DE and David Hutchinson of Charleston, SC and seven grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 5 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at a later time at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association Dorchester Chapter (MSSADORCHESTER.COM).
