Charles A. Marshall

Charles A. Marshall, 81 of Cambridge, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Wednesday September 2, 2009. He was born at Ross Neck near Cambridge on January 6, 1928 and was a son of the late Charles Elliott and Sallie Spedden North Marshall.

Mr. Marshall attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1945. He served in the US Navy from 1945 until 1947, and served on the aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt in the Mediterranean and also in the Caribbean. On March 5, 1969 he was married to the former Deanna Asplen. He had been in the Boy Scouts in the area for many years. Mr. Marshall had worked for Sears for 40 years and had served as credit manager for many years. He was a member of Milton United Methodist Church at Woolford. Mr. Marshall loved photography as well as traveling. He was also an ardent hydroplane boat racing enthusiast and enjoyed model railroading. Mr. Marshall had been a season ticket holder for the Baltimore Colts and also was an avid Baltimore Oriole fan. He had been in failing health for the past month and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital for the past two weeks when he passed away on Wednesday morning.

Survivors include his wife Deanna Asplen Marshall of Cambridge, one step son Gregory Era and his wife Anna Riley Era of Hebron, two step grandsons Kyle Mitchell Era and Ryan Charles Era both of Hebron, two brothers in law Wayne Asplen and his wife Janet Asplen of Cambridge and Ken Asplen and his wife Susan Asplen of Woolford. He is also survived by three nieces Doris Brooks Brashier and her husband Lee Brashier of New Bern, NC, Nancy Asplen Old of Virginia Beach, VA and Lisa Asplen of Washington, D.C., three nephews Robert M. Brooks and his wife Deanna McGrath Brooks of Church Creek, Kevin Asplen of Cambridge and Mark Asplen and his wife Michelle Asplen of Minnesota. He is also survived by cousins George Lake Wilson and his wife Dottie Wilson, Fran North Collins and her husband Thomas F. Collins, Jr., Mary Ann North Booker and her husband Mike Booker, Herbert L. North, Wesley Wilson and Rosabelle Wilson Brown. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters Martha Parrott Wright, Anna Mae Parrott Brooks and Margaret Marshall Mills.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM at Old Trinity Churchyard with the Rev. Robert G. Kirkley officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Milton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 106, Woolford, MD 21677. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
