Charles A. “Charlie Tuna” Hayward, Sr., 72, of Wingate passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2022 at his son’s home. He was born on June 23, 1950 in Cambridge and was a son of Nancy Simmons Hayward and the late Armond E. Hayward.
He attended schools in South Dorchester. Mr. Hayward started working at the age of 12 driving a seafood truck for Bobby Hall and through the years he worked for Spicer's Lumber Company, Safeway and working on the water crabbing, fishing, tonging and trapping. Mr. Hayward also drove a truck for Bill Fitzhugh, Carlton Trucking and Donald Jones from Parsonsburg. He enjoyed fishing, poker, Keno, and take rides around the county. Mr. Hayward also enjoyed cooking for his friends.
He is survived by a son Charles A. Hayward, Jr. of East New Market, a daughter Pamela Manley of Bishops Head, four grandchildren Aiden Hayward, Alexis Hayward, Jackson Manley and Kevin Morse, his mother Nancy Hayward of Cambridge, a sister Jeanne Webster of Cambridge, a brother Mickey J. Hayward of Virginia, several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Mr. Hayward is preceded in death by a grandson Nash Manley.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Simmons, Brandon Manley, Jay Robinson, Lynn Cusick, Tommy Holotik and Randy Twilley. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Simmons, Jan Finch, Melvin Pritchett and Robert Holotik.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 1 pm at Dorchester Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Bloodsworth officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 to help defray funeral cost.
