Christopher K. Newton

Christopher Kent Newton, 77, of Cambridge, MD passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024.  Chris was predeceased by his wife Joanne Hill Newton and his parents, Kent and Annie Newton.  Chris is survived by his stepdaughter Shannon and Kevin Evans, his brother Mark and Shirley Newton, his brother Neil Newton, and his sister Camille Newton.

Prior to retirement, Chris and Joanne purchased and ran a high-end oriental rug business in Charlotte, NC for eighteen years.  Chris and Joanne sold the business and relocated to the eastern shore of Cambridge to be closer to the Joanne’s family.

Chris started his career in the U.S. Navy as a Quarter Master for six years attached to the missile-platform submarines USS Tunny and USS Perch off the coast of Vietnam and Hawaii. Chris then landed in Miami to sell floor coverings for the Chicago based company Carson Pirie Scott.

Chris always had a keen interest in vintage sailing vessels and visiting the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels. He also enjoyed attending the local auctions with his brother-in-law Gordon. The joy of cooking became a new area of interest as well.

Chris will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed.

Chris will be interred in the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery of Hurlock, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bay Water Animal Rescue or the Kitty City Cat Rescue in Cambridge, MD.
