Christopher B. Sears, 41, of Wingate passed suddenly and too soon from this life on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on September 18, 1973 and was the son of Louis E. Sears, Jr. and the late Daphne Burton Sears. On October 28th, 2007, he married the former Mary C. Dayton.
Chris attended schools in Dorchester County and began his legacy on the water at an early age. He went on to prove himself as a skilled crabber and oysterman shortly into his career. He had his boat; the "Miss Casie" built when he was only a teenager which he tended with great pride. Outside of spending time with his family and providing for them, he could be found using his expertise laboring to help his neighbors and fellow watermen, while simultaneously entertaining them with jokes and tales that will be sorely missed by all. He lent a hand to many who sought out his expertise on engine and hydraulic issues, or as a skilled welder, or to those who simply needed strong arms lifting things on and off their boat. Chris's vast knowledge and skills helped save many a waterman from losing work time and money over the years.
Chris's passion for working on the water often meant he could spend time with his family while providing. For many seasons on the water, Chris had the pleasure working alongside his father Louis. Last year's oyster season, Chris's wife Mary worked beside him, culling the oysters he caught. He took great pride that season knowing their team work provided even more to their family. This summer Chris loved having his son Tyler at his knee learning to crab. His daughter Kyra was excited to sit alongside her Daddy when he brought the crabs he caught home to share with her.
Chris was proudly expecting a child this coming March with his wife Mary Sears and their children Tyler, and Kyra of Wingate. He also leaves two daughters Mackenzie and Casie Sears of Salisbury, his father Louis Sears, Jr. and wife Michelle of Taylors Island, parental grandmother Gertrude Sears of Cambridge and several aunts and uncles. Besides his mother, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Hubert and Betty Burton, and paternal grandfather Louis Sears, Sr.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 5 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Michael LaClair officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A, 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 to help defray funeral cost.
