Claribel Hughes (Murphy) Edge

Claribel Hughes Edge, 88, of East New Market passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at her home. She was born in Drawbridge on January 9, 1934 and was a daughter of the late Addison and Beatrice Richardson Murphy.

Mrs. Edge attended schools in Vienna. On June 25, 1949, she married Franklin A. Hughes, who passed away on July 5, 2005. On May 15, 2010 she married William B. Edge who passed away on May 22, 2022.  She worked at the Eastern Shore State Hospital for 28 years. Mrs. Edge loved her cat Baby and enjoyed flowers and puzzles.

She is survived by a son Franklin Hughes, Jr. of East New Market, two daughters Mary Pinto and husband Robert of Hebron and Joyce Webster and husband George of North Carolina, five grandchildren Doug Bowers, Bill Bowers, Joe Bowers, Cheryl Hughes and Jessica Thomas, numerous great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren, a brother Gene Murphy of Linkwood, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husbands, Mrs. Edge is preceded in death by a sister Katherine Hughes, four brothers Melvin Murphy, Donald Murphy, Kenneth Murphy and Robert "Jim" Murphy and a sister Louise Hurley.

Pallbearers will be Dougie Bowers, George Webster, Robert Pinto III, David Thomas III, Floyd Wooters and Aaron Bowers.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 1 pm  at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
