Clark I. Simms, Jr., 89, of East New Market passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Salisbury on March 12, 1925 and was a son of the late Clark I. Simms, Sr. and Dorothy Bounds Simms.
Mr. Simms graduated from Washington High School in 1942. Clark grew up in Mount Vernon, Maryland, where he worked on the water with his father. In his younger years, he attended and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. While living in Vienna, he attended Vienna United Methodist Church and later was a member of the Jubilee Christian Fellowship in Cambridge where he served as the treasurer and on the board of directors. Clark will be remembered most for his love and devotion to the Lord.
Following high school, Clark served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1946. Following his Army service, he attended Salisbury State and Johns Hopkins University, where he received his electric engineering degree in 1952. After college, he went to work for Delmarva Power and Light Company in Vienna for 31 years. On July 30, 1948 he married Alexine Simms who passed away on December 23, 1983. Later, he married Dorothy "Dot" Wingate Bradley on July 19, 1986.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy "Dot" Simms of East New Market, a son Clark I. Simms III and wife Cheryl of Rhodesdale, two daughters Dottie Redington and husband Marty of Dagsboro, DE, Alison Walt and husband David of Laurel, DE, two stepsons Milton Bradley, Jr. and wife Joanne of Salisbury and Johnny Bradley and wife Linda of Salisbury, a stepdaughter Dottie Dukes and husband Tim of Laurel, DE, six grandchildren, six step grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by two nieces Sharon Fitzgerald and Pam Taylor.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, Clark is preceded in death by a son Harvey Simms, a sister Doris Taylor, a nephew Graham Taylor, Jr. and brother in law Graham Taylor, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Redington, Michael Redington, Ryan Simms, Matthew Walt, Jordan Stack and Matt Swisher.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Jubilee Christian Fellowship with Pastor George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Jubilee Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 202, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Heroes Haven, c/o Ray Edwards, P.O. Box 357, Sharptown, MD 21861. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
