Clinton Linwood Waters of Cambridge, MD, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015. He was 74.
Born on the wharf in Centreville, MD, on July 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Clinton Casper Waters and Edith Isabel Miller Waters. He attended schools in Centreville graduating from Centreville High School in 1959. During high school, he worked at the Queen Anne’s County Record Observer. Clint began working for Western Publishing in Cambridge in 1962 and quickly advanced to press supervisor. He maintained that position until he retired in 1997.
In January, 1962, Clint married Gloria Dale Whitby. They had three sons. In August, 1979, he married Lynne Gillis and gained a step-daughter.
Mr. Waters loved fishing and supported the sport throughout his life. He obtained his Captain’s license in 1996 running fishing charters from 1997 through 2002 under the name of “Reeler Charter Fishing”. He served as president of the Dorchester County Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association (MSSA) from 1998 until the time of his death. He spent countless hours producing newsletters for MSSA and volunteering for special events like the Dorchester Family/Kids’ Fishing Tournament.
Mr. Waters was passionate about creating artificial oyster reef habitats which involves depositing concrete reef balls designed for oyster development and growth. The reef balls also provide structure and habitat for local fish which creates enhanced sports fishing opportunities. Mr. Waters was instrumental in getting the project started at Cook’s Point, his favorite reef site with reef balls produced by him and his MSSA crew. Currently, over 1500 reef balls reside in the Choptank River off of Cook’s Point.
Mr. Waters was also an active member of his community serving in a variety of roles. He was a member of the Dorchester County Charter Board that obtained Home Rule for Dorchester County on November 5, 2002. He was appointed Commissioner of the Dorchester County Sanitary Commission in June, 2006 and continued to serve until the time of his death. A long-time resident of Bonnie Brook, he served in all positions of the Bonnie Brook Improvement Association Board, mostly as president, from 1980 until the time of his death.
Mr. Waters is survived by his three sons, Mark and his wife, Andrea (Kreeger), of Cambridge, MD; John and his wife Christy (Blake) of Cambridge, MD; and Chris and his wife, Karen (Lappen) of Cordova, MD; his step-daughter, Terri Brown and her husband, Mel, of Joppa, MD; and his 9 grandchildren Samantha, Rachel, Danielle, Morgan, Taylor, Dylan, Sarah, Kacy, and Mason.
