Connie N. Peters, 84, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 at her home. She was born in Cambridge on December 18, 1932 and was a daughter of the late Alvin McKinley “Skinner” Newcomb and Ida May Dennis Newcomb.
Connie graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1951. On August 5, 1960, she married Leon M. Peters. She had worked for C&P Telephone Company for 17 years and was a floral designer for Benedict's for 9 years. Connie enjoyed gardening and watching westerns on T.V. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she was a part of the Gleaners Circle and sang in the church choir. Connie also was a big part in Soup Day at the church and she was also a member of the Dorchester Chorus and the Veterans Recognition Committee.
She is survived by her husband Leon M. Peters of Cambridge, two sons William Jeffrey Peters and wife Lori Ann of Pace, FL, and Shawn K. Peters of Cambridge, three grandchildren Lauren M. Jenkins and husband Matthew, Kimberly A. Hancock and husband John and Jeffrey S. Peters, three great grandchildren Morgan E. Jenkins, Xavier M. Hancock and Andrew W. Jenkins. Besides her parents, Mrs. Peters is preceded in death by a brother USNA William Dennis Newcomb.
Pallbearers will be Roger Brake, Gary Phillips, Philip McKelvey, Vaughn Holland, Ron Schaake, and David Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Bradshaw and Rev. George Simmons.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 12 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cambridge with Rev. Bonnie Shively and Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 205 Maryland Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613.
