D'Arcy E. McCollister

D'Arcy E. McCollister, 84, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Cambridge on December 29, 1927 and was a son of the late Thomas A. and Mabel Meyer McCollister.

He attended Cambridge High School class of 1944. On August 19, 1950, he married the former Madonna Arnett who passed away on January 4, 1985. On June 24, 1989, he married his second wife the former Carolyn Mende who passed away on March 9, 1993. Mr. McCollister worked side by side with his son Dennis on the family farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling. Mr. McCollister was a member of Beckwith United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Chesapeake Woods Center for their care and loving kindness to Dad as well to his family. They were a great blessing to all of us.

He is survived by his son Dennis E. McCollister and wife Shelley of Cambridge, two grandchildren Matthew McCollister and Lauren McCollister, two brothers Russell McCollister and Granville McCollister both of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wives, Mr. McCollister is preceded in death by an infant son Larry Douglas McCollister, three brothers Carl McCollister, Howard McCollister and Eldridge McCollister, a sister Clara Gadow and his special companion Mildred Seward.

Pallbearers will be Matthew McCollister, Gary Crandell, David Gadow, Steve McCollister, James Murphy and Charles "Chuck" Wheatley. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl McCollister, Jr. and Dr. Noman Thawny.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev.'s Christina Blake, Jay Hurley and Pam Bockart officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Beckwith United Methodist Church, c/o Harold Miller, 5730 Morris Neck Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
