David B. Fitzhugh

David B. "Pork Chop" Fitzhugh, 53 of Cambridge, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Wednesday May 13, 2009. He was born in Cambridge on May 19, 1955 and was a son of the late Levin Morris and Thelma Aaron Fitzhugh.

David attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1973. He had served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He had worked for Conrail in Cincinnati, Ohio, and had also been employed by the Penn Central Railroad. David later worked at the Cambridge Wire Cloth for 16 years as a welder until his health forced him to retire. On October 25, 1975 he was married to the former Susan Koppin. David was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cambridge, and Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 VFW. David loved baseball and in general was an avid sports fan. He had been in failing health for several years and was taken to Dorchester General Hospital on Wednesday evening where he passed away.

Survivors include his wife Susan R. Fitzhugh of Cambridge, two daughters Leslie Ann Fitzhugh of Charleston, S.C. and Denise Marie Fitzhugh of Cambridge, one sister Tracey L. Riley of Cambridge and one brother Michael L. Fitzhugh of Greensboro and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Linda Muir and a brother Wayne M. Fitzhugh.

A funeral service will be held on Monday morning at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church on Glenburn Avenue in Cambridge with the Rev. Jerry Wade officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund of the First Baptist Church, 501 Glenburn Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be Chuck Cusick, Jeff Cusick, Leaf Lowe, Eric Lowe, Charles Moore and John Russ. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
