David G. Lewis

David G. Lewis, 73 of Cambridge, passed away at Dorchester General Hospital on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. He was born at Henry's Crossroad near Vienna, on September 14, 1937, and was a son of the late Russell and Alma Marie Richardson Lewis.

David attended schools in Vienna. On December 17, 1971 he was married to Beatrice Shores. He had worked at the Dorchester Co. Board of Education for 20 years. He started working at the Academy School in Cambridge and was working at Sandy Hill Elementary School when he retired in 1991. He was a member of the Gateway Church of Christ in Mardela. David enjoyed playing guitar and singing at Church and at Pleasant Day Adult Day Care Center. He had been in failing health for the past year and passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning.

Survivors include his wife Beatrice M. Lewis of Cambridge, one daughter Molly Lewis of West Hollywood, CA, three step sons James C. Shores and his wife Sharon Shores of Hurlock, Allen G. Shores of Cambridge, Thomas L. Shores and his wife Belinda Shores of Sharptown, one step daughter Edna Mae Goslin and her husband Nelson Goslin of Cambridge. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Renee Cordrey, Allen G. Shores, Jr., Tammy Lynn Lewis, Timothy L. Shores, Scott Shores, Michele Eure and Brandi Fanton, ten great grandchildren Helena Shores, Taylor Cordrey, Nicholas A. Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Timothy Lee Shores, Jr., Caleb Shores, Rebecca Eure, Joseph Eure, IV, Lilah Shores and Charles Price III. He is also survived by one brother Thomas R. Lewis and his wife Angelina Lewis of Washington State, three sisters Estelle Marie Wheeler of Easton, Patricia Annette Wilkerson and her husband Arthur Wilkerson of Vienna and Judith Alma Townsend and her husband Robert Townsend of Salisbury. He was preceded in death by a sister Sylvia Reid.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Mark S. Billiter officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. Pallbearers will be Nelson Goslin, Charles Lewis, Nicholas Lewis and Arthur Fanton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gateway Church of Christ, 25845 Ocean Gateway, Mardela Springs, MD 21837-2122 or to the Pleasant Day Adult Day Care Center, 2474 Cambridge Beltway, Cambridge, MD 21613.
