David Lee Whitby

David L. Whitby, 87, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Trappe on December 27, 1928 and was a son of the late Charles L. Whitby, Sr. and Elizabeth Wolfe Whitby.

He attended schools in Talbot County. On December 22, 1972, he married the former Judy Bramble, who passed away on September 25, 2010. Mr. Whitby worked at Western Publishing as a pressman. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan. Mr. Whitby coached and umpired Little League for 25 years. He also loved hunting and just being out in the woods. Mr. Whitby was the last charter member of the Cambridge Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by a daughter Carol W. Bloodsworth of Cambridge, a granddaughter Emily S. Bloodsworth of Cambridge, a brother James Alvin Whitby of Trappe and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Whitby is preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers Elizabeth Dawson, Lola Reed, Mildred Walker, Mattie Dulin, Charles Whitby, Jr. and Earl Whitby.

Pallbearers will be Richard Collins, Bill Walker, Phil Reed, Vince Gordon, Bill Thomas and Harold Robinson.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Richard K. Prahl officiating. Interment will follow at Old White Marsh Cemetery, Trappe. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cambridge Church of the Nazarene, 97 Sandy Hill Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
