David S. Wroten, 87, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at his home. He was born in Andrews on July 6, 1931 and was a son of the late Lee and Iva Insley Wroten.
Mr. Wroten attended schools in Lakesville. On April 16, 1954, he married the former Loretta Travers, who passed away on March 8, 2008. He served in the U.S. Army during Korean War, where he fought in several major battles: Heartbreak Ridge, Pork Chop Hill and the Punch Bowl. Mr. Wroten worked at the National Can Company in Cambridge with over 40 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and reading the Bible. Mr. Wroten was a member of the American Legion Post 91, Cambridge Wesleyan Church and Chateau Community Church.
He is survived by two sons Thomas Lee Wroten and wife Judy of Hagerstown and Rev. D. Larry Wroten and wife Michelle of Queen Anne, six grandchildren Brian Wroten, Abbey Wroten, Chris Wroten, Kara Barnes, Tyler and Madison Hill, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Wroten is preceded in death by five brothers Alfred, Jim, Jack, Leroy and Billy Wroten and two sisters Mary Wroten and Viola Gore.
Pallbearers will be Chris Wroten, Brian Wroten, Tyler Hill, Billy Short, Dave Lednum and Ward Higgins.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 12 pm at Cambridge Wesleyan Church with his son Rev. D. Larry Wroten and Rev. Jack Diehl officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Chateau Community Church, c/o Nancy Coates, 3981 Ocean Gateway, Linkwood, MD 21835. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
